FAQ 18: Manual lens removal skills
Should I learn how to remove my lenses manually in case of an emergency?
Many scleral lens practitioners prefer their patients to avoid manually removing scleral lenses as much as possible. If you want to practice manual removal so that you know how to remove them in the event of a true emergency when no removal tool is available, it should be learned and practiced under the watch of an eye care professional in case things do not go well to avoid ocular injury. Removal tools are inexpensive so it is better to buy extras and have them stashed in your vehicle, purse, pill holder on a keychain, sunglasses case, backpack, desk or locker, travel bags, etc. to prevent being in a situation where you have no removal tool. Always be prepared.
