Carry-on vs checked baggage considerations

Carry-on*:

  • Every item you may need in flight

  • Enough supplies to cover your needs if your checked baggage goes astray

  • Anything you may not be able to replace at your destination

Checked baggage:

  • Anything that does not comply with the 3-1-1 rule. (Should I rely on a medical exemption? Learn more here.)

  • Hydrogen peroxide disinfection solutions (ClearCare). This is sometimes confiscated.

Gate-checking hazards

If all of your essentials are in your carry-on, there is still risk that you could be required to check your carry-on at the gate. You can tell the gate agent that your medical supplies are in your carry-on, or (to be on the safe side) just pack then in a personal item instead.

Carry-on checklist suggestions

  • Several vials of PFsaline

  • Travel size of Unique pH or Tangible Clean

  • Non-moisturizing hand soap, 1oz

  • Insertion and removal plungers

  • Alcohol preps

  • Towel or dental bigs to cover workspace

  • Small mirror

  • Backup lenses (depending on your needs and how long your trip is)
