Dental bibs
Dental bibs are a practical accessory for using scleral lenses on the go. The plastic backing and absorbent surface makes them suitable to cover any surface where you may need to handle your sclerals - at work, even in flight.
Contact lens friendly hand soaps
Many hand soaps today contain moisturizers. But the hand soap you use before handling sclerals should be moisturizer free so that oils are not transferred to the scleral lens surface.
Options can be as simple as Dawn dish soap, or a hand soap sold specifically for contact lens users, such as the popular Ocusoft brand.

Ziena Eyewear
Ziena Eyewear are very popular with people who have severe dry eye, particularly for computer use. They are glasses frames with a removable discreet silicone shield which is meant to fill the gap between the frame and your skin. This shield blocks moving air (from vents, forced air heating, fans, or wind) and causes an increase of humidity in the space immediately in front of the eyes.
Ziena glasses are Rx ready, they come in many styles and colors, and can be purchased with a variety of lens types.
DMV Scleral Stand
The DMV Scleral Stand is an inexpensive, collapsible scleral application stand. It consists of a translucent base and tube and a DMV Vented Scleral Cup. This stand has no light source. However, for those who need a light to assist with lens positioning, you can shine a light at the base or tube and you will be able to see the light through the plunger.
The DMV stand is particularly popular for learners and convenient for travel due to its size.
DMV 45
The DMV 45 is an alternative removal plunger which is helpful as a way to attach a plunger without placing your hand immediately in front of your eye as needed with a standard removal plunger (DMV Ultra). This can be particularly useful in cases of low vision or just one seeing eye.
The DMV 45 is shorter than the DMV Ultra, which for some people makes it more difficult to use. One suggested “hack” is to place a piece of plastic straw over the handle end.
Careful: DMV cases are airtight. Don’t use this case for storage unless your plunger is completely dry.
DMV Ultra Remover
The DMV Ultra Remover is the most common way to remove a scleral lens. See Scleral Lens Removal Guide for details on use.
Careful: DMV cases are airtight. Don’t use this case for storage unless your plunger is completely dry.
DMV Vented Scleral Cup
The DMV Vented Scleral Cup is a popular scleral lens application plunger. It can be used on its own or in certain stands, such as the DMV Scleral Stand.
This vented plunger does not apply any suction to the lens. However, it allows light to come through the shaft, which is helpful for correctly positioning your lens, especially if you have low vision.
Careful: DMV cases are airtight. Don’t use this case for storage unless your plunger is completely dry.
Basic flat screw-top lens case
Flat cases can be used for daily disinfection of sclerals with multi-purpose solution as long as the size is compatible. They are also handy for temporary lens storage in multi-purpose solution even if you normally use a hydrogen peroxide disinfection system with a “basket” style case.
DMV Scleral Cup
The DMV Scleral Up is a popular lens application tool for use with fingers. It is not commonly used with stands. The shaft is hollow but solid on the handle end. This allows suction to be applied to the lens in order to hold the lens in position while you fill it and apply it, without risk of “tipping over”. You squeeze to apply suction, and squeeze again to release the lens onto the eye.
Careful: The case it comes in is water-tight. Don’t use it for storage unless your plunger is completely dry.
Careful: DMV cases are airtight. Don’t use this case for storage unless your plunger is completely dry.
EZI Scleral Lens Applicator Ring
EZI Scleral Lens Applicator Ring is placed on a finger (with hand extended palm up) which allows you to make use of both hands for the lid spread. It’s a simple concept which for some patients can be a game changer.
There are two sizes of this product - Scleral, and Mini Scleral / Hybrid. The sizes refer to the cup where the lens is placed, as the ring itself is adjustable. Typically, the Scleral one is recommended for lenses 15mm or larger but please check with your provider for guidance.
See Green Scleral System (Light & Stand)
The See Green Scleral Lens System is a complete kit consisting of scleral lens stand, scleral lens light system, application and removal plungers, and a vented plunger case. This is an extremely popular system for applying scleral lenses due to its thoughtful design, quality manufacturing and attentive manufacturer support.
Clear Care Plus
Clear Care Plus is a hydrogen peroxide disinfection system for contact lenses that is suitable for GP (including scleral) lenses. It has more additives that “regular” Clear Care. User preferences vary between the two, but many scleral lens users prefer the Triple Action version for both comfort and vision.
Clear Care Plus is used to clean and rinse lenses, then disinfect them. It comes with a special “basket” style case that contains a neutralizing disc. You place your lenses in the cage, fill the case with solution, then place the cage in the case. Over a 6-hour period the lenses are disinfected and the the disc converts the solution (which is mostly hydrogen peroxide) to saline.
CAUTION: The Clear Care case is not suitable for use with larger or deeper scleral lenses. Consult your provider to ensure your lenses can be used with the Clear Care case.
Clear Care Plus is a “red cap” solution that cannot be used in the eye.
